When you configure an iPad tablet using the Apple ID and share the device over a wireless network with another user, chances are that the personal messages may appear in iMessage app of the shared iPad. If that is causing an inconvenience to you, you may want to know how to stop the iMessage from appearing on the shared iPad temporarily. In fact, there are four workarounds to do this and they are listed below.
iMessage lets you send and receive messages and emails over a wireless network. The easiest workaround to keep the personal messages away on the shared iPad is to disable the iMessage service altogether. For that, navigate to Settings > Messages > iMessage and turn Off the slider. You can turn iMessage back On via the same navigation path, later when you go off the Wi-Fi network and start operating the iPad individually.
In case you are getting the messages from one particular number or an email ID while the iPad is shared, you can remove the same on iMessage. For that, navigate to Settings > Messages, sign in with Apple ID if prompted, and choose Send & Receive. Then, choose the contact number or email ID you want to remove under You Can Be Reached By iMessage At.
Add New Number on iMessage
For this, navigate to Settings on the iPad and tap on the Apple ID icon featuring your photo and name. Now choose Name, Phone Numbers, Email tab, and tap on Edit above the Reachable At option. Choose Add Phone Number, enter the new number, and choose Next.
A passcode would be sent to your existing contact subsequently. Confirm the change by entering the same on the respective column on iMessage. In case you have previously added a mail ID on iMessage, tap on Edit and change the same through the same navigation path instead of contact number.
Apart from these, if you wanted to change the Apple ID password, navigate to Settings, tap on your name, choose Password & Security, and select Change Password. Then key in the present password and a new one in the respective columns; confirm the action by tapping on Change upon prompt.
In case you are unable to uncheck the contact number due to an unknown issue, you can sign out of Apple ID as a last resort. For that, navigate to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, choose the Apple ID and tap on Sign Out.
